I grew up with neither siblings nor pets (a singleton to the nth degree) and believed myself to be - gasp! - not a cat person. Then, on a fateful day in June 2017, I was commanded by a meowing little Ms. Junipurr to open up my home and heart. Life since then has been a joyful daily adventure. As a certified Type A & first-time furbaby parent, I embarked on a journey of researching and learning cat parenting best practices from cat behavior specialists, vets, clinical and lab researchers, animal rescue organizations, and fellow pet parents. Under Junipurr’s supervision, I created Junipurr Studio to be a parent-to-parent, heart-to-heart, safe space to share our lessons learned and parenting wins in our mission to provide a beautiful, enriching life for our furbabies.

Junipurr is an adopted American shorthair tabby, DOB Mar 22, 2017. “Triumph” is her middle name (metaphorically speaking. Her literal middle name is HotDog): Orphaned and discovered alone at two weeks old in a gas station, she was brought to the local animal shelter, where the kind folks there immediately began fostering and nurturing her into health. When she reached adoption age, she was quick to bless her Mama with her glorious self and a lifetime of litterbox cleaning, food serving, and big spooning opportunity. Nowadays, she has a full schedule living her best life. Recent credentials and accolades include: Black Belt Purring Machine, Grand Master Napper, and MisChief Commander. If you are a long-time friend of Junipurr’s instagram, you’ll know that Junipurr has an unabashed Favorite Parent who is not, alas, her Mama. SIGH! FP is an OG cat person, an active-behind-the-scenes animal welfare advocate, and a social media luddite who prefers to be behind the camera. Often he has a cameo in our daily life stories. Occasionally he is called upon as IT technical + emotional support. And, once in a blue moon, one of his cat dad jokes slips through quality control and makes its way into the posts :) Junipurr’s house rules: Privacy will be respected in exchange for kibbles! *Cue triumphant laughter*

What is Junipurr Studio?

Junipurr Studio is a digital hub for cat parents and the whole extended family. Our mission is to empower and celebrate furbaby parents and animal advocates around the world. This means everything from sharing toebean-sized parenting wins & hacks, synthesizing research-based long-form guides, reviewing the best furbaby gear, to spotlighting momentous milestones in animal welfare advocacy. Our vision is to create a community that advances all animals’ access to a life of joy and peace.

Why is this your community?

The internet is basically 65% cat. Cat memes, funny cat compilations, vet blogs, cat parent diaries — we love ‘em and are here for all of it, front row with popcorn and a notepad. So why did we start Junipurr Studio?

Two reasons:

  1. Cat parenting dilemmas. There is a wealth of vet advice, new research, and brilliant inventions/hacks for cat parenting, and it’s difficult to wade through the sometimes contradicting info alone. Take food for example. Our first vet said that kibbles are better than canned food for digestibility and dental health, but some clinical pet nutritionists admonish against a dry food diet for its heavy concentration of fillers, and we’ve seen research debunking any connection between treats and dental health. Then there is the raw food (frozen or freeze dried) movement, plus entire Facebook groups dedicated to homemade “petcurean” recipes. Also, what is the final word on grains? As real-life cat parents trying to do right by the furbaby, we need answers and community. Sure, there is often no one-size-fits-all solution, especially for customers as idiosyncratic as cats, but there is a lot of power in collaborative knowledge building. Hence, Junipurr Studio is structured as a digital hub for all of us cat parents to ask our questions and share our truths.

  2. Animal welfare advocacy. Junipurr, as you may have surmised by now, is a cat. Though she aspires to be the President of the Anti-Social Social Club, she has also been subliminally opening our hearts and eyes to animals of all kind. In 2019, we made the commitment to find a way to become an animal welfare advocate in our daily life. Since pet parents are already animal lovers, we hope you’ll join us in creative brainstorming and mobilizing to make the world kinder, in ways big and small, to all animals.

Headbunts & slow blinks,
