In Which Junipurr Turns Four Years Old

Yesterday Junipurr turned four years old, and let me tell you - Mama’s got FEELS. My babygirl is growing up so fast!

Now, I realize that birthday brouhahas are a social construct, but to paraphrase Ambrose Bierce’s definition of sweater in The Unabridged Devil's Dictionary (i.e. “a sweater is a garment worn by child when its mother is feeling chilly”), a Pinterest-worthy birthday celebration is what the furbaby gets because her mother needs to reminisce about sweet memories and the passage of time.

Last night I reread Junipurr’s adoption paperwork and, as a cat mama is wont to do, I got a little weepy. Did you know that Junipurr was just 2.2 pounds when we adopted her? She was nobbut a wee one, as James Herriot would say.

I desperately wish that I could slow down time. Watching a kitten grow up is such a surreal experience: one moment she looks up the five feet of height difference between you two, and she looks so SMOL that your palm would be a king size bed for her. Then the next minute, as she saunters around the kitchen counter she knows full well she is not supposed to be on, you realize with an inner gasp that her signature babyfat belly fluff is no more. She is trim as an Olympian.

Loving Junipurr has made me more vividly conscious than ever before that time together with a loved one is not to be taken for granted. So, since I can’t slow down time, I wish to savor each moment with this sweet and spunky kitty. #AlwaysBeMyBaby
