A Smattering of Fun Feline Finds!

Isn’t this photo by Gaelle Marcel the ultimate leisurely summer mood?

Hello, dear friends! How are you this toasty mid-summer Tuesday? It's been a while since I last wrote. One, because Favorite Parent, Junipurr and I were thrown into an unexpected Big Life Experience (ok, mainly just Favorite Parent and I. Junipurr enjoyed her usual majestic leisure, as is her right 😸). But two, perhaps a deeper truth, is that I needed some time to process the beautiful experience that was fostering Butch and Cassidy ... and the heartache that was saying goodbye when they graduated.

You see, I had begun writing an open letter to their adoptive families, but there was so much I wanted to say that I couldn't quite find the words. And so, I took some time to feel the feels, dive into cooking (for someone who used to routinely burn instant ramen, cooking has become a surprisingly meditative practice), and wander around my local library (#ultimatehappyplace). I still can't quite bring myself to publish the letter to Butch & Cassidy's forever families or gather my mind to complete the other essays in draft, including the Feline Nutrition Series (Eeee! So exciting but so meaty! *pun intended*), a catified home design mood board, etc. But! I do have some fun cat gems to share, so allow me to present ...A smattering of fun feline finds!

  1. Take a guess: When was the first cookbook for cats published? If you guessed 1965, you got it right! And if you guessed the book was The Secret of Cooking for Cats by Martin A. Gardner and illustrator Clare Barnes Jr, why, you get double brownie points! I was tickled by this interview with Alex Beggs, the journalist who recently unearthed this story, on Milk Street. (And here is Alex’s original article on Taste)

  2. Speaking of fun American cat history, did you know there is a - sorry, the -- American Museum of the House Cat in North Carolina? According to its TripAdvisor reviews, what shrimp was to Bubba in Forrest Gump, this museum is to cat lovers (“cat statues, cat pinball machines, cat hymn book … anything ever made, created, saved, invented, carved, drawn of a cat”)

  3. Woa! This Voice Actor Can Mimic Any Animal

  4. Speaking of amazing voices: Cat Choir, in which two hella-serious choir boys sing a duet of “meow” is the most haunting, bizarre, adn wonderful thing in the world
Doesn’t this bronze cat candle holder by celebrated Viennese artist Walter Bosse, known for his oeuvre of 8,000 "modernist bronze animal figurines," remind you of Felix the Cat?

Hope your day is full of joy and deliciously juicy summer fruits, friend! If you are the mood to share, I’d love to know what is bringing your heart joy these days ❤️
