Tell Junipurr It’s Friday!

Happy Friday, friends!

What are you up to this weekend? We are hosting Junipurr’s fun-loving grandpa, and Juni is already getting the zoomies in anticipation. I foresee pre-dawn games of chase, tissue paper mountains, and tickle sessions between the two :)

It was Junipurr’s birthday this week, so you know I got some fun feline finds in the bag ;) Here are some links for cats and cats parents:

  • Did you know that Margaret Cho’s hairless cats smell like cream of mushroom soup when they have a little dirt on them? Junipurr is infamous for smelling like dusty caramels. What do your furbabies smell like? (Psst, min 24 of this The Purrrcast interview is the most brilliant cat toothbrushing hack I have ever heard. Margaret Cho is an icon for so many reasons!)

  • Have you tried Sustainably Yours cat litter? I have not, but I am intrigued and lowkey stalking the pet stores near me to source a bag. My default response to new litter brands is side-eyein’ and side-steppin’ because (1) Juni’s current litter, which happens to be another corn-based litter brand,  has been working fabulously for her for the past four years, and why mess with a good thing ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS CAT LITTER, (2) The litter industry is a booming $10 Billion industry with a 4% CAGR and I’m wary of capitalist bandwagons, and (3) I am also quite wary of greenwashing. When I heard that one of the “features” of this litter is that it can be flushed down the toilet, for example, I was like HOLD UP. But, CEO Pedro Bastos’ explanation of how the brand thinks about end-to-end sustainability (and the fair warning he gave about this particular “feature”) in this interview seemed reasonable, and Jackson Galaxy has given his stamp of approval to the brand. Here’s why I’m really intrigued though: Purportedly, the granules of litter are fine as sand, and given how sensitive cat paws can be – Junipurr’s toebeans are juicy and tender as summer berries – I am curious to see if I can elevate her litterbox experience. If you have given Sustainably Yours litter a try, let us know what your kitties thought in the comments below!

  • As I may have shouted from the rooftops before, it was Junipurr’s bday this week and she got the most awesome gift from her Auntie L: little robo fish that start moving when put in water! The whole family was mesmerized; Fav Parent and I perhaps even more so than Juni :D. Furbabies have such great toys these days, don’t they? Juni also got a crackle-y leaf toy with pull apart catnip stuffed toys (wow, that’s a mouthful. Imagine the first product pitch!). I kid you not, Junipurr promptly batted the stuffed ladybug into her litterbox like Lionel Messi at the 2007 Barcelona Vs. Getafe goal.

  • Finally, did you hear about the mountain lion that wandered into a Southern California outdoor mall this week? In his honor, I’m reading The Cat The Changed America, which is a children’s book about the true story of P22 Mountain Lion who – well, no spoilers, so I’ll just say is an inspiration for the development of the wildlife crossings.
