Tell Junipurr It’s Friday!

Last night as all three of us were loafing on the living room floor, Favorite Parent (FP) asked out of the blue: “What if Junipurr has a great sense of humor?” We simultaneously looked at Juni, who was wearing her signature judgy professor look, and burst out laughing. But maybe, just maybe! In celebration of that possibility, today’s Friday Feline Finds (#linkpack) is all about furbaby humor, specifically cat comics. Voilà seven of my favorite illustrators who create funny comics about cats. Enjoy!

Lucas Turnbloom

When you want your experience as a cat parent to be seen and validated, I recommend Southern California cartoonist Lucas Turnbloom’s  “How To Cat” webcomic series, which is the definition of relatable. I dare say every illustration is a life-with-cat gem. At least, life with my cat. If you’ve read 10 Things You Didn't Know About Junipurr, for example, you’ll know that this drawing of a kitty going into a full-blown poofing contest with her own image in the mirror is way too real :D

Christopher Rozzi

New York-based illustrator Christopher Rozzi has created something magical with his “Tiny Confessions” series on cats and dogs. Think PostSecret meets Victoria portrait oil paintings. Each gorgeously illustrated portrait is paired with a micro confession that, well, gets pretty purrsonal. Case in point:

Lingvistov

Russia-based Lingvistov was started by self-taught illustrators & real-life cat parent Landysh. She consistently delivers on the boundless cuteness + wildness of cats. This cat yawn drawing haunts me with how accurate it is. Now you’ll know why when I look into Junipurr’s yawning mouth, I feel the presence of JAWS.

Mohamed El Mayati

Mohamed El Mayati, aka VeryCereals on Instagram, illustrates a wide range of mostly not-cat related stories, but I had to give him a shoutout. As a person who is a hobbyist potter, this illustration of a cat doing pottery made me CTOL (Cry Tears of Laughter). Such self-reliance, kitty!

Susie Yi

Korean illustrator Susie Yi, aka CatandCatComics, creates illustrations that are the kind of adorable you want as a plushie to squeeze. The kitties have eyebrows and ambitions, and most stories are told from the cats’ point of view — which, I’m sure all agree, is categorically superior ;)

Nick Filippou

Like all the best cat comics, Nick Filippou draws inspiration from his real life furbaby, Minnie, an adorable tabby with giant eyes and a clipped ear (yup, Minnie is a former stray and ambassador of Trap Neuter Release). What’s so weird and wonderful about Nick’s drawings is that he isn’t afraid to capture that experience all parents have of “Awww, my child has created something super gross but also kind of heart-burstingly endearing.” Exhibit A:

Scott Metzger

No “Best Cat Comics” list would be complete without a nod to OG cat person and illustrator Scott Metzger. This Northern California cartoonist started capturing the essence of feline psychology back in ‘96. If ever there were an illustrated encyclopedia of feline behavior and inner life, I’m pretty sure Scott’s work would be a treasure trove up to the task.
