TJIF | Creative Animal Shelters & Adoption Campaigns
Tell Junipurr It’s Friday!
Happy Friday, friends! What are you and your furbaby up to this weekend?
Junipurr is going to create a glorious mess thanks to a cardboard box full of tissue paper, and I am going to create a ‘lemonade bar’ with home squeezed lemon juice + an assortment of mixers like cardamom sugar cubes, lavender bitters, and fresh rosemary twigs. We livin’ that fast & furious life, I know 😸
For today’s link pack, since bringing home a new furbaby has been on the mind, voilà TEN inspiring, innovative, & delightful animal shelters and adoption campaigns:
As a lover of 90s hip hop, I found this Fresh Pup adoption campaign video to be the shizzle. Funk-pop more your jam? The East Bay SPCA breaks it down with this Uptown Funk parody (you owe it to your Friday to check out this track!). In a heart-aching ballad mood? Here’s Pawdele ;)
Need another reason to love Ikea? Here it is: Ikea teamed up with Home for Hope Singapore to promote animal adoption by adding cardboard cutouts of adoptable animals, each with a QR code linking to that furbaby’s info, to Ikea showrooms. As shoppers browse furniture, they get a visual reminder that “a house is not a home without a furry family member to complete it.” Word.
Worth the read, esp for history aficionados: Not your mother’s animal shelter (“The shelter hosts yoga classes with kittens, kids birthday parties and summer camps, food trucks, a monthly pop-up art gallery and live bands. People often stop by to do a little homework at the “kitchen” table or read a book in the catio.” ❤️)
Beijing’s Animal Welfare Training and Education Center, a first of its kind for China - and possibly the world? Also, that catified living room is #DesignGoals
Simple but effective: What do Adam Sandler, Ed Sheeran, and Ted Lasso have in common? 😸
Huh! An architecture firm that specializes in animal shelters (and this one has has a lovely portfolio of real shelter designs!)
“One of the most significant issues facing animal welfare over the next decade is the lack of pet-accessible housing” - via Inside the plan to revolutionize animal shelters
Yup, solar powered animal shelters is a thing (and it connects to disaster preparedness): Tahoe, Wisconsin, Arizona
