TJIF | Pet Parent Resolutions

Tell Junipurr It’s Friday!

Merry Christmas, dear friends! Today is a very special day indeed, as it is also the last Tell Junipurr It’s Friday - our weekly pet parent forum - of the year. How time leaps, stumbles, and crab walks in any fashion but linear, eh? To celebrate this special occasion, Junipurr and I’ve put together an extra juicy link pack, community discussion prompt (hint: new year, new …!), and poll + lil extra somethin’ somethin’ for you. ENJOY!

Link Pack

  • This mini film about goats naturally and sustainably regenerating a forest in Australia, and thereby protecting the nearby town from bushfires, will fill your heart with beauty and hope. Sidenote: Goats are the perfect ambassadors of contentment, are they not? Baby goats jumping is one proof point, and min 9:35 of this video is another.

  • (Above) If the year has you feeling worn down, may we recommend the healing practice of … forest bathing? If you are in a lockdown zone, experience the healing vicariously with these two cats and their cat dad Jun (of Rachel + Jun and Jun’s Kitchen). Warning: This video might be the most relaxing spot on the whole internet.

  • If you're looking forward to spring cleaning (surely I am not the only one!), artist Abbey Lossing's Cleaning Guide illustrations for The New York Times will feel hilariously on point. They pay homage to the diligence with which our cats supervise any and all on-goings in the house :)

Community Discussion Prompt: Pet Parent Resolutions

In the words of the wise modern day philosopher Dog (of Thoughts of Dog):

We are approaching the time of year. when humans look back. and think about. what they could have done better. not me though. i was perfect.

Cats, according to this new year resolution card from Haiku Cats, may be a bit more up for resolutions:

New Resolutions:

Play more. Accommodate Less.

Commit to Nap Time.

Ok, maybe the reflection & resolutions should be left to us pet parents ;). I first encountered the concept of new year pet parent resolutions from the podcast Veterinary Advice, Animal News & Views, in an episode entitled “Top 2019 Pet Resolutions.” Hosts Drs. Roger Welton and Karen Louis, both practicing veterinarians, give excellent pointers on resolutions pet owners should strive for, based on their insight of common health concerns they’ve observed in their clinical practice. I’m marinating on a few intentions, including write a song for Junipurr, figure out minimal waste living with cat, and volunteer with TNR and/or wildlife rehab programs. How do you feel about the concept of pet parent resolutions? Have you done them before? Do tell!

p.s. If figuring out your 2021 Pet Parent Resolutions in community - with games, prizes, and fabulous cat people - sounds fun, keep your eyes peeled for our virtual party announcement!
